Selank and Semax for cognitive enhancement — nootropic peptides worth exploring?
Has anyone here experimented with Selank or Semax? I’ve been researching nootropic peptides lately and these two keep coming up as potential cognitive enhancers. From what I understand, they’re synthetic peptides developed in Russia and are supposed to help with focus, memory, and anxiety reduction.
I’m particularly interested in Selank for anxiety management since I don’t respond well to traditional meds. I’m 34F and work in a high-stress tech job, and honestly the brain fog has been real lately. I’ve been on tirzepatide for about 6 months (down 28lbs!) but the mental clarity I was hoping for hasn’t really materialized.
I know these aren’t as widely studied as some other peptides discussed here, and sourcing seems tricky. I’ve seen both intranasal and injectable forms mentioned. Does anyone have personal experience with either of these? How did you dose them, and did you notice actual cognitive benefits or was it placebo? Also curious about any side effects you experienced.
Would love to hear from anyone who’s tried these, especially if you’ve combined them with GLP-1s or other peptides. Thanks in advance!
I ran Semax (nasally) for about 3 months last year and honestly it was pretty impressive for focus. I used the N-Acetyl Semax variant at around 600mcg per day, usually in the morning. The effect was subtle but definitely there – like my working memory just worked better? Hard to describe but I could hold more information in my head during complex tasks.
No noticeable side effects for me except maybe slight overstimulation if I took it too late in the day. I was also on BPC-157 at the time so can’t say it was 100% the Semax but the timing lined up. Sourcing is def the biggest challenge, you really need to find a reliable peptide vendor. I haven’t tried Selank yet but it’s on my list. Worth noting my doc had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned it lol, so you’re kinda on your own with research here.
Interesting that BioHackerMike mentioned the overstimulation because I had the opposite experience with Selank – it was actually really calming for me, almost too much so at first. I’m 41M and tried it specifically for generalized anxiety after reading some studies. Started with intranasal drops, maybe 250mcg twice daily.
The anxiolytic effect was noticeable within a few days but it didn’t make me foggy like benzos or anything. Just… calmer? My sleep actually improved too which was unexpected. Only used it for about 6 weeks though because sourcing became an issue and tbh I wasn’t sure about long term safety since there’s not a ton of Western research. Would definitely consider it again though. Just make sure wherever you’re getting it from has testing certificates, lot of sketchy suppliers out there unfortunately.
