When a celebrity credits ‘clean eating and Pilates’ for losing 40 pounds in 3 months — are they gaslighting us?

OK so I just saw another interview where a celebrity lost a TON of weight in like 3 months and when asked about it, they said ‘oh you know, just cleaned up my diet and started doing Pilates!’ Like… COME ON. I’ve been doing actual clean eating and working out 5x a week for 6 months and I’m down maybe 15 pounds. Which I’m proud of! But it took WORK and TIME.

I’m not trying to shame anyone for using GLP-1s or other peptides – honestly I’m considering tirzepatide myself because the weight has been so stubborn. But why can’t we just be honest? The secrecy makes regular people feel like failures when we can’t achieve the same results with ‘just Pilates.’

It feels like gaslighting tbh. Like either admit you’re using medication (which is totally valid!) or just say you don’t want to discuss your methods. But don’t pretend it’s something the rest of us aren’t doing when clearly the math doesn’t add up. I know several people on semaglutide and tirzepatide who’ve had amazing results and they’re open about it with friends.

Anyone else frustrated by this? Or am I being too cynical?

  1. You’re not being cynical at all. I think the issue is that there’s still so much stigma around weight loss medication, like it’s ‘cheating’ somehow. Which is ridiculous – we don’t tell diabetics they’re cheating when they use insulin. I’m on month 4 of tirzepatide and down 32 pounds, and I’m super open about it with people who ask. But I get why celebrities don’t want to deal with the judgment and headlines. That said, you’re right that it does make regular people feel inadequate. It’s a tough situation all around but I wish there was more honesty too.

  2. I hear what coastalrunner is saying about stigma but I also think these celebs have TEAMS – personal chefs, trainers, maybe doctors prescribing peptide stacks we don’t even know about yet. It’s not just one thing. My wife’s friend works in Beverly Hills and says basically everyone out there is on tirzepatide or semaglutide plus other stuff. The ‘Pilates’ answer is definitely PR speak. What bugs me is when they then turn around and sell diet books or workout programs based on the lie. That crosses a line imo.
